Letter from a Ex-Offender to Kingsway & Louise Jennings                                              2/23/2010

To: Mrs. Louise Jennings

God’s Chosen Vessel in My Life

Well it was the Holiday Season of 2008. I was serving time at Haynesville Correctional Center. I had been there about five months and I didn’t want to be there. I was really a long way from home and it was around Christmas time. I was not of good cheer at all, I was not a pleasant person to be around. I had started to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, but I wasn’t there yet. I mean being God and Christ like. Well here is my story and it is a “true story”. I got mail one night a couple of days before Christmas. I got some regular mail along with some institutional mail, as I looked through my mail I had gotten a Christmas card that didn’t have a post mark on it nor a stamp ,it was taped to my institutional mail so I opened it and was greeted with Happy Holiday ,Good Tidings of Joy In Jesus Name and it was signed Shel, Louise, Mary, Pat, Bonnie, Paula, Judy, Mike, Deb, Glen, and George. Now I am real curious so I looked on the back and I found the address of Kingsway Prison & Family Outreach. I was really feeling down and low by about this time in my life so this card of Love and Christian spirit really sparked the Godliness in me to reach out and write them a “thank you letter” for uplifting my spirits. Then I get a return letter answering  how I could have been added to the Kingsway mailing list. The end result is Mrs. Louise Jennings said to me look at it as “Heaven Sent” because her ministry didn’t serve Haynesville Correctional Center at that time. They primarily serve Augusta CC. I was happy she wrote me back so I responded to her letter with my heart felt feeling as though I knew she really meant to help me get to know Christ better through her Christ Like and genuine concern and effort. Well one letter led to another and now after about two or three letters she answered my letter about her program offering an alternative home plan, because I didn’t want to go back to Danville, VA where I had gotten into trouble. Now my faith had grown and through talking with Louise by mail, I knew God had me on this journey to clean up my life I began to study and read my Bible more, I started taking courses through the mail. I feel great when I get back my graded work. I read it and I even send some of them to my kids and grandkids and I enjoy finishing some  work because I then get my certificates. Mrs. Jennings told me she could not offer a alternative home plan through Kingsway because the main purpose is to help aid inmates upon their release in her area. Since I was not from their Harrisonburg, VA area the only thing she could and would do so far as helping my transition out, for clothes, food, and maybe shelter is take my home address and she would get in touch with some church that would assist me. Well, I said okay , but I wanted to go to a program and continue my treatment and get myself together before I go back to Danville, VA.  The next thing I know she sent me a pre-screening application and I answered it with the passion of being a new creature in Christ.! The very next time I heard from her it was all God, because she sent me a letter head stating she had just gotten off the phone with Mrs. Amison at Gemeinscaft and for me to give that letter to my counselor and my counselor is to write to the program at Gemeinscaft. God was working! two months later I was accepted at Gemeinscaft.  I am at  Gemeinscaft right now Feb. 23, 2010 ,Giving God The Glory with help from his vessel,  Mrs. Louise Jennings.
